HappyNest Real Estate Investing App
Mobile app UX/UI design for a fractional commercial real estate investment platform — making institutional-grade investing accessible to everyday users with a clean, trust-building interface.
// OVERVIEW
HappyNest is a fractional commercial real estate investing platform that lets everyday investors participate in institutional-grade property ownership with as little as $10. The challenge was designing a mobile experience that made a complex financial product feel approachable, transparent, and trustworthy — without dumbing it down for the segment of users who wanted the details.
// THE CHALLENGE
Commercial real estate investing has historically been inaccessible to retail investors — high minimums, opaque processes, and intimidating financial language. HappyNest needed to break down those barriers in a mobile-first product that built trust quickly, communicated the property investment thesis clearly, and made the onboarding flow feel as simple as any consumer app.
// PROCESS
USER RESEARCH
Mapped two distinct user personas: the casual micro-investor (unfamiliar with real estate investing, motivated by low minimums) and the informed retail investor (comparing platforms, evaluating property quality). Both needed different information hierarchy but the same core trust signals.
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
Designed a property-first structure — leading with the physical assets (like the AutoZone in Brick, NJ) rather than the financial mechanics. Giving users a tangible, real-world anchor before introducing returns data dramatically improved comprehension in early testing.
UI DESIGN
Developed a clean, light-mode mobile UI with generous white space, clear data hierarchy for financials, and property photography as a first-class UI element. Designed screens for: onboarding, invest flow, property detail, portfolio overview, and the brand story page.
TRUST & CONVERSION
Incorporated social proof elements, transparent fee disclosure, and a clear “how it works” narrative screen to reduce the anxiety that comes with any investment product. The property detail screen included tenant brand (AutoZone), lease terms, and projected returns in a scannable layout.
// OUTCOME
The designed experience positioned HappyNest as a transparent, credible investment platform that stood apart from the complexity of traditional real estate products. The property-first narrative approach and clean financial UI helped the platform communicate its value proposition clearly to both casual and informed investors.
